From Houseboats to Workforce Solutions: How TA Structures Evolved Into a North American Modular Construction Leader
There are not many companies that can say they started by building handcrafted houseboats and evolved into manufacturing modular workforce accommodations, portable classrooms, industrial camps, and commercial buildings across North America.
But that journey is exactly what shaped TA Structures into the company it is today.
What began as a family-driven manufacturing company rooted in craftsmanship, innovation, and custom construction eventually diversified into modular workforce solutions designed for some of the harshest and most demanding environments in Canada and the United States.
Today, TA Structures manufactures modular buildings for industries including mining, oil and gas, education, Indigenous communities, commercial development, and remote workforce operations.
And while the projects may look different than they did decades ago, the philosophy behind how we build has never changed.
We still believe in quality craftsmanship.
We still believe in building long-term relationships.
And we still believe that well-built structures matter.
Where the TA Structures Story Began
Long before TA Structures was manufacturing modular offices and workforce accommodations, the company’s roots were established through custom marine manufacturing.
For years, our team at Twin Anchors Marine became known for building custom houseboats that combined engineering, craftsmanship, and functional design.
Houseboat manufacturing is unlike traditional construction.
Every inch of space must serve a purpose. Every system must work together efficiently. Plumbing, electrical, structural engineering, cabinetry, HVAC systems, and finishings all need to function seamlessly within a compact environment designed to withstand constant movement, weather exposure, and long-term use.
Those early years taught our team valuable lessons that would later become the foundation for modular manufacturing.
We learned how to maximize efficiency without sacrificing quality.
We learned how to engineer structures for durability.
We learned how to manufacture indoors with precision and consistency.
And most importantly, we learned how to customize builds around the unique needs of each customer.
Those same principles still guide how we build today.
Why TA Structures Diversified Into Modular Construction
As industries across Western Canada and the United States continued to grow, so did the demand for high-quality modular construction.
Companies operating in remote regions were facing increasing challenges:
- Skilled labour shortages
- Rising construction costs
- Difficult site access
- Harsh weather conditions
- Tight project timelines
- Housing and infrastructure demands in remote areas
Traditional site-built construction was not always practical — especially for industrial projects requiring fast deployment in remote environments.
Modular construction provided a smarter alternative.
Factory-built modular buildings allow projects to move faster while maintaining consistent quality control. Buildings can be manufactured indoors while site preparation happens simultaneously, significantly reducing overall project timelines.
Recognizing that opportunity, TA Structures expanded beyond marine manufacturing and brought decades of custom manufacturing expertise into the modular industry.
Today, that diversification has allowed TA Structures to support projects across British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, Alaska, and multiple regions throughout North America.
What TA Structures Builds Today
Today, TA Structures designs and manufactures a wide range of modular workforce and commercial solutions.
Our projects include:
Workforce Accommodations
Remote workforce housing continues to play a critical role in mining, energy, forestry, and industrial sectors. TA Structures manufactures workforce accommodations designed for durability, efficiency, and long-term performance in challenging climates.
These modular workforce buildings are designed to support employee comfort while maintaining operational efficiency for employers.
Mine Drys
Mine dry buildings are an essential part of many mining operations, providing workers with secure spaces for changing, drying gear, storing equipment, and maintaining hygiene in demanding work environments.
TA Structures designs custom mine dry solutions tailored to the operational needs of each site.
Drill Camps & Texas Camps
Remote projects require dependable infrastructure.
Our modular drill camps and Texas camps are designed for rapid deployment and efficient operation in remote locations where traditional construction can be difficult or cost-prohibitive.
Portable Classrooms & Modular Daycares
As communities and schools continue to grow, many organizations require faster and more flexible building solutions.
TA Structures manufactures portable classrooms and modular daycare buildings designed to support education infrastructure with minimal disruption and faster occupancy timelines.
Modular construction allows schools and organizations to expand capacity without waiting years for traditional construction timelines.
Modular Offices
Modular office buildings provide businesses with flexible workspace solutions that can be customized for a variety of commercial and industrial applications.
These buildings can often be delivered and installed significantly faster than traditional office construction.
Wellsite Units Built for Remote Operations
Another important part of TA Structures’ modular workforce solutions is our custom wellsite units.
In oil and gas, energy, and remote industrial sectors, wellsite buildings play a critical role in supporting day-to-day operations in isolated environments where durability, mobility, and reliability are essential.
TA Structures manufactures modular wellsite units designed to withstand demanding Canadian and northern climates while providing practical, efficient spaces for crews working in the field.
These units can be customized for a variety of applications including:
- Site offices
- Crew accommodations
- Change rooms
- Washroom facilities
- Equipment storage
- Lunchrooms and meeting areas
- Operational support spaces
Because many wellsite projects operate on strict timelines in remote locations, modular construction provides significant advantages over traditional site-built methods.
Factory-built wellsite units can often be manufactured and delivered much faster while maintaining consistent quality control throughout the build process.
TA Structures’ experience manufacturing for rugged environments allows us to design wellsite buildings that prioritize:
- Durability
- Energy efficiency
- Ease of transportation
- Functional layouts
- Long-term performance
- Fast deployment to remote locations
As energy and industrial industries continue evolving, the demand for flexible modular wellsite infrastructure continues to grow — and TA Structures remains committed to building solutions that support those operations reliably and efficiently.
The Advantages of Modular Construction
Modular construction continues to grow rapidly across North America — and for good reason.
Factory-built modular construction offers several advantages over traditional site-built methods.
Faster Project Timelines
Because buildings are constructed indoors while site work occurs simultaneously, projects can often be completed much faster than traditional construction.
This is especially valuable in industries where downtime or delays can have major operational impacts.
Improved Quality Control
Indoor manufacturing environments allow for better consistency, improved material protection, and more controlled construction processes.
At TA Structures, every project goes through structured quality assurance procedures designed to maintain high manufacturing standards.
Better Cost Predictability
Weather delays, labour shortages, and scheduling challenges can significantly impact traditional construction budgets.
Factory-built modular construction helps reduce many of these variables, creating greater cost certainty for clients.
Safer Construction Environment
Indoor manufacturing environments provide safer and more controlled working conditions for trades and production teams.
Reduced Environmental Impact
Modular manufacturing can help reduce material waste and site disruption while improving construction efficiency overall.

One of the things that sets TA Structures apart is our experience building for challenging climates and remote locations.
Our buildings are frequently designed for northern and industrial environments where durability matters.
From remote workforce camps to modular offices and classrooms, our structures are engineered to withstand demanding conditions while maintaining long-term functionality.
This experience has helped TA Structures grow into a trusted modular construction partner across multiple industries.
Supporting the Mining Industry
Mining continues to be one of the industries driving infrastructure demand across Western Canada and the United States.
Recently, our team had the opportunity to participate in a mine tour through the Mining Association of British Columbia.
Experiences like this are incredibly valuable because they help us better understand the day-to-day realities our clients face in the field.
The more we understand operational challenges, workforce demands, and remote site conditions, the better we can continue designing modular workforce solutions that support those industries effectively.
Quality Standards Matter
At TA Structures, quality assurance continues to play a major role in everything we manufacture.
Our facilities and manufacturing processes include certifications and quality standards designed to support long-term reliability and performance, including:
