Panel Discussion at the Southern Interior Regional Economic Summit (SIRES)

In an era of shifting trade policies and escalating tariffs, businesses across Canada are facing new economic realities that require creativity, agility, and collaboration. At this year’s Southern Interior Regional Economic Summit (SIRES), a thought-provoking panel titled “Trade Turmoil: Navigating the New Economic Landscape” tackled these challenges head-on.

Economic development practitioners play a pivotal role in helping local businesses adapt and thrive — but the current global trade environment is anything but predictable. This session moved beyond the headlines to share real-world insights from entrepreneurs and practitioners who are successfully managing the volatility.

Among the featured panelists was Greg Kyllo, President of Twin Anchors Manufacturing, who brought a valuable industry perspective on navigating supply chain disruptions, rising costs, and shifting export markets. Drawing on his experience leading one of the region’s most recognized manufacturing companies, Kyllo highlighted how strategic adaptation and innovation can turn uncertainty into opportunity.

Fellow panelists included Mike Militmore, founder of Riversong Guitars and Gitane De Silva, Founder and Principal, GDStrategic

Panelists explored:

  • How to mitigate trade-related risks and adapt to evolving policies
  • Strategies for identifying new market opportunities amid uncertainty
  • Practical examples of resilience and innovation in response to U.S. tariffs and global trade disruptions

Attendees came away with actionable insights and inspiration for building resilience in an increasingly complex economic landscape.
