The Legacy of Two Fathers
A Father’s Day Reflection by Greg Kyllo, President, TA Structures
Pictured above: Glenn Kyllo and Knud Thomsen. This Father’s Day also marks what would have been Knud Thomsen’s 90th birthday.
Tomorrow is Father’s Day.
It also would have been Knud Thomsen’s 90th birthday.
As I sit reflecting this evening, I find myself thinking about two men who helped shape my life.
My father, Glenn Kyllo, who passed away from brain cancer when I was only 29.
And my stepfather, Knud Thomsen, who came into my life in 1984 and remained a guiding influence until his passing in 2022.
I wear both of their rings every day on my right hand.
Glenn’s ring beside Knud’s ring.
My two dads.
Side by side.
The older I get, the more I realize that neither man is remembered for what they owned, what titles they held, or what they accumulated.
They are remembered for their character.
For their kindness.
For their work ethic.
For their integrity.
And for the way they treated people.
Knud was one of the kindest men I have ever known. I honestly cannot remember him speaking poorly about another person.
He led quietly, by example.
Glenn taught me many of the same lessons.
Both men left an imprint on my life that remains with me every day.
Tomorrow, as our family celebrates Father’s Day, I’ll be thinking about both of them.
I’ll be grateful for the time I had with them.
Grateful for the values they instilled in me.
And grateful for the example they set.
Happy 90th Birthday, Knud.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad.
You are both missed more than words can express, and remembered more often than you could ever know.
