TA Structures proudly brought our construction expertise to the water with the completion of the new Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) floating base in Sicamous.

When RCMSAR Shuswap Station 106 came to us with their vision for a floating rescue station, we knew this wasn’t just another boathouse—it needed to be a fully functional, all season rescue hub built to withstand the challenges of life on the water. Together, we designed and custom built a floating facility that meets their operational needs, protects their gear, and improves their ability to save lives.

Built on pontoons and anchored in the Sicamous Channel at Main Street Landing Wharf, the new base provides two enclosed bays (a total width of 46’8”) with indoor gear storage, a kitchen, washroom, ready room, and a teaching room. Every detail was engineered to support faster response times and safer decision making. With everything undercover, crews no longer have to prep in pouring rain or snow—this new station extends the life of their vessels and equipment while keeping volunteers mission ready.

We integrated innovative features including solar panels, energy efficient climate control, and fish sensitive decking. The result is a structure that’s not only practical but also environmentally mindful, ensuring the surrounding waters remain protected.

RCMSAR’s members shared how much this facility means to them: a place to train, a private space to care for patients, and a secure home for their rescue fleet. In the words of one volunteer, “We used to have to get ready to go out on emergency calls outside in the weather… now we have all of our gear, including our boats, undercover. This makes for safer decisions and prolongs the life of our gear.”

The project was made possible through the incredible support of the local community. On May 24, we joined dignitaries, first responders, and residents for the grand opening—a rope cutting ceremony celebrating not just a building, but a milestone for marine safety in the Shuswap.

This project demonstrates what TA Structures does best:

• Custom structures built to exact operational needs
• Innovative, sustainable design features
• Local expertise that turns a wishlist into a working reality

The RCMSAR Sicamous Rescue base is the only inland, freshwater RCMSAR station in British Columbia, and there’s nothing else like it. We’re honoured to have built a facility that will serve the Shuswap for decades to come—a true rescue centre that stands ready in all seasons and to help them with their mission: Saving lives on the water.
